A total of 17 agencies are at work to provide relief to those hit by storms and a resulting strong tornado that hit Montgomery County on Saturday, according to officials on Sunday.
The agencies are working in cooperation and report that electricity distributor Entergy Texas is working as of Sunday night to restore service to more than 1,300 customers who lost power during the storms.
A shelter at the East Montgomery County Community Development Center is open in Splendora at 16,401 1st Street, providing warmth for those without a place to go.
The agencies confirm that a tornado that caused significant destruction in the Porter Heights and New Caney areas of East Montgomery County was powerful enough to generate winds up 165 miles an hour, much like a hurricane.
Officials say between eight and 10 people sustained minor injuries in the storms and were taken to hospitals but there were no fatalities reported.
The number of buildings that sustained damage was 302, with about 30 of them completely destroyed, a Montgomery County report released on Sunday stated.
The agencies cooperating on storm recovery are led by the Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and include the Texas Division of Emergency Management and many more local authorities.
