Mayor and Others to Speak Out Against HISD Library Change

Houston Independent School District, whichTexas Education Agency is taking over due to poor performance, says they are going ahead with the plan to eliminate school libraries and replace the space with discipline centers in certain schools the new school year.

The new/current HISD Superintendent Mike Miles announced months ago that librarian and media-specialist positions in 28 schools will be eliminated.

Now Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and local faith leaders are planning a press conference for tomorrow (Monday, July 31) condemning the practice in these schools.
