Agriculture Economist at Texas A&M Dr. David Anderson says it's true! "We have some drastically lower prices from Dairy Farmers. Milk prices were $25 per hundred-weight, and now they're lower than $18 for the same amount! Now we're starting to see lower prices at the dairy case in your grocery store, too."
He says dairy farmers are producing more milk than before - which is a part of the equation. "Milk has gone down - in fact it's at its lowest price since March of 2022."
Some Grocery Prices Remain High!
Dr. Anderson also says we're actually eating less ice cream than 10 years ago --- but we're spreading more butter now! There's a higher demand for milk and milk products this summer - and some prices are still lower than last year. "From several months ago - that price went down lately. However, right now we're seeing a bit of a seasonal price up-tick also due to the fact that it's hot hot hot!!!"
At the same time, cheese, butter and other refrigerator staples are seeing kinder prices...Dr. Anderson says two factors are that dairy farmers are producing more milk, and we're consuming less of milk products!
