This afternoon Texas lawmakers went ahead with their impeachment proceedings on state Attorney General Ken Paxton. The Republican-led House General Investigating Committee has filed 20 articles of impeachment against Paxton, with allegations ranging from disregard of official duty to bribery and obstruction of justice. The proceedings come after a months-long secret investigation into Paxton.
After all 20 articles were explained in detail, representatives against a vote today spoke. Then the vote. It was quick and painless for most.
Soon after the vote was announced, Ken Paxton tweeted:
I am beyond grateful to have the support of millions of Texans who recognize that what we just witnessed is illegal, unethical, and profoundly unjust. I look forward to a quick resolution in the Texas Senate, where I have full confidence the process will be fair and just.
Now it goes to the Texas Senate.
