Long Waits + Really Long Lines + Gift Card Problems = Gun BuyBack NO. 3

Harris County's Third Gun Buy-Back Program today ended hours after it was expected to. Very long lines of cars waiting for hours to turn in one, two or more firearms to local authorities and get their gift cards - valued from $50 to $200 per piece. Heavy volume for sure.

KTRH listener Stan Owen called the newsroom to as if we knew about gift card holders finding out their cards were "expired" when they tried to redeem them online. The Sheriff's office told Owen, "The cards are under Commissioner Rodney Ellis!" Later we heard from Ellis' office that there was a technical glitch with the cards and it was fixed.

Owen told us the lines of cars were very very long. "I arrived at 8am, and finally got to the head of the line at 1:00pm. After that I went home and went online to redeem my gift cards. They were deemed "expired" ... and I'm glad to tell you now that all is well!"

So far, the final tally of guns turned in has not been made public.
