One Horrific Act Wasn't Enough for Her

Congregation Emanu El has served Houston's Jewish community since 1949 from the same location on Sunset. A week ago (1/14/2023), while a rabbi was preparing for a Bar Mitzvah, a woman broke in and desecrated the pulpit. Several religious items were removed from their place. She caused damage and consumed and spilled red wine. Other allegations were even more sacrilegious. The Torah scroll was removed and spread out on the floor. Officials say it can't be repaired - it will have to be replaced. The desecration caused thousands of dollars in damages. ”The damage is immeasurable,” Assistant Harris County District Attorney, Erica Winsor told our TV partner Channel 2.

The woman is Ezra Law, and she was arrested. She was to go to court yesterday (1-20-2023). She didn't. Instead she returned to the building and behaved badly during a chapel service. She left before officials arrived. There is a warrant for her arrest. Legal officials are considering if she will be charged with a hate crime.
