Texas Primary Election Results

The nation's first primary of 2022 is underway today in Texas, and some crucial races are on the ballot.

Gov. Greg Abbott has a fight on his hands with several conservative challengers. Former U.S. Rep. Beto O'Rourke is expected to come out on top for the Democrats.

Current Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush is hoping to unseat indicted Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is facing an FBI investigation. U.S. Rep. Louis Gohmert and former Texas Supreme Court Justice Eva Guzman are also vying to take Paxton's place on the Republican ticket.

A separate FBI investigation is looking at conservative Democratic U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar, and progressives hope to unseat him with Jessica Cisneros, a familiar candidate who came within four points of beating him in 2020.

Texas has been in the national spotlight in recent years due to an influx of migrants at the US-Mexico border and the state's relatively loose restrictions during the pandemic. The state's massive 2021 power grid failure also captured nationwide attention.
