This spring the Memorial Drive tunnels in Memorial Park are scheduled to open.
The Memorial Park Conservancy says the eastbound lanes of Memorial Drive will be routed through the tunnels in March, and the westbound lanes in April. The tunnels will pass under a land bridge that adds 25-acres to the park and unites the parts north and south of Memorial Drive.
Before the tunnels are open to automotive traffic, a public walk-through is scheduled for Saturday, February 5th.
Once the tunnels are open, the existing roadway will be demolished and turned into park space.
