Has political polarization hit a tipping point?

A new study says we could get so politically polarized that there is no coming back.

The researchers from Cornell say we could become so polarized that we couldn't unite even if we had another 9/11 or pandemic. Rice's Mark Jones won't quite go that far.

"This is a computer simulation that's designed to provide examples of what could or might happen if the country continues to go down this polarizing course," Jones said.

So have we ever been this polarized in our history?

"Well, we did have the Civil War. But we are in a more polarized situation than at any point since World War II," Jones explained.

As for how we got here, Jones says it's a combination of politicans, the mainstream media, and even voters.
