A local non-Covid vaccine trail is looking for volunteers over the age of 60.
This is for RSV, Respiratory Syncytial Virus.
Researchers have been working on an elusive vaccine for more than a decade, the World Health organization estimating the virus kills about 160,000 people globally every year.
Usually RSV affects kids under two, preemies, but most importantly, it can be deadly in seniors over 65, striking mostly between October and April, during flu season.
This is not the flu, but it can lead to pneumonia. The largest expected market for the vaccine will be in the elderly. So far only its symptoms can be treated.
In Houston DM Clinical Research is enrolling people age 60 and up to participate in the RSV vaccine trial, expected to last about a year and a half.
