Longtime Southeast Texas state Representative Dan Huberty is retiring. The Houston Republican announced this past week he wants to pursue other opportunities in life. Huberty says it takes time to develop good public policy and doesn't believe a single legislator, political party, or interest group has all the answers. He was first elected to the Texas House in 2010 and served as Public Education Committee chair in 2017 and 2019. Huberty was arrested for DWI in April and told colleagues he had been struggling with alcoholism. The Texas Legislature wrapped up their third special session inw hat has been a very demanding year last week.
