The U.S. Congressional Texas Maps Not Set Yet

In Austin, the Texas House reconvenes at four this afternoon to continue negotiations for the U.S. Congressional District boundaries in redistricting maps. In early Sunday morning hours today, by a vote of 79 to 56, the House approved the maps, however the Texas Senate quickly rejected a House imposed change that tweaked two Houston districts that would have pitted two black Congressional representatives, Rep. Al Green and Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, against one another and called for a Conference Committee. That means representatives from both chambers will have to meet behind closed doors to reach an agreement and both chambers will have to vote again before the third Special Session ends Tuesday.
