Texas Health Warns of "Twindemic"

The Texas Department of State Health Services warns of a "twindemic" as flu season arrives in the waning wave of Delta variant Covid cases. Flu season begins in October, and thanks to closed schools, business lockdowns and ubiquitous masks last winter to mitigate Covid significantly reduced the number of flu cases. The state is recommending flu shots especially for the young and elderly. They say you can get a flu vaccine and a Covid vaccine at the same time. Flu shots take about two weeks to provide protection so they recommend an early start this year. The flu shot is a quadrivalent again this year, offering protection against four strains of flu virus. Meanwhile Covid deaths in Texas are flattening though are still at the rate we saw in the worst months of the pandemic last winter.
