After a drive thru food events last year, people are returning to Fair Park in Dallas today for the opening of the Texas State Fair.
They’ll be wanting food. “Concessioners have had almost two years to be curating some of their new items this year,” says Karissa Condoianis with the Texas State Fair. “I cannot wait to get my Fletcher’s Corny Dog on opening day. There is nothing like getting a Fletcher’s Corny Dog.”
People have been lining up since 1942, but this year they will find a new flavor at Fletcher’s. The Dallas Hot Bird Dog. A spicy deep-friend turkey frank covered in mac and cheese and sprinkled with fried jalapenos.
Fair organizers are grateful to return to their primary fundraising function. “Obviously last year not having our largest fundraiser of the year, because the fair is a non-profit organization, it’s been very challenging. But we are thankful to be back this year and welcome everybody to come say Howdy to Big Tex,” says Condoianis.
Clay Walker opens the concert series tonight.
More than 100,000 will be on hand at the Cotton Bowl Saturday, October 9, for the AT&T Red River Showdown.
The State Fair runs through October 17.
