Lake Houston Lowering for Nicholas

In preparation for Tropical Storm Nicholas' Gulf of Mexico arrival to the Texas coast line on Monday (9-13-2021) The Coastal Water Authority and Houston Public Works are lowering Lake Houston.

Lake Houston was at 42.29 feet and now is 41-1/2 feet.

The National Weather Service Houston-Galveston is forecasting 3 or so inches of rain in the area come Monday evening.

The city requires that when three inches of rainfall is predicted for the area, Houston Public Works has to exercise it's standard Lake Lowering Procedure of lowering the lake by a foot. If the forecasted rainfall exceeds six inches of rain, additional lowering will be done.

The City of Houston now saying property owners on the lake should make arrangements to secure boats and other items. They also encourage all citizens to prepare for the possibility of power outages.
