Airline Recovery is Being Delayed

Airline travel is dropping off as the delta variant of Covid increases susceptibility and people cancel more plans. There were only 1.3 million people to pass through TSA checkpoints in August, the lowest numbers since May of last year. "The airline travel recovery has stalled," says Daniel McCarthy, Editor of the Travel Market Report. "That's mainly because of the international travel restrictions." The EU in past weeks has announced Covid vaccination and test restrictions, and with no sight of returning business travelers, that has airlines hesitant for optimism. Delta's CEO says he expects Covid cases to slow down travel recovery by 90 to 120 days. Some, though not all airlines are lowering expectations for third quarter revenue.
