White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki says the Biden administration is policing social media.
Psaki admitted Thursday the White House is looking at and flagging posts on Facebook they believe contain “misinformation” about COVID-19.
“We’ve increased disinformation research and tracking within the Surgeon General’s Office. We are flagging problematic posts for Facebook that spread disinformation,” Psaki said.
That's alarming to privacy advocates. It comes amid reports the Democratic National Committee plans to work with cell phone carriers to monitor text messages containing “disinformation”. Writer and political commentator Pamela Geller says this is government censorship, full stop.
“The First Amendment protects speech, but above all speech, it protects political speech. Because who decides then what’s good and what’s forbidden?” Geller said.
She adds your phone number is your IP address, and your communication with the world. It’s not something the government should be censoring.
