Texas Tackles Distracted Driving

TX-DOT has launched its “Talk-Text-Crash” campaign to remind drivers of the state law against texting while driving.

Under the law passed in 2017, it is illegal to read, write or send a text while driving.

Violators can dace a find up to $200.

TX-DOT recommends avoiding phone use completely while driving, including talk-to-text or hands-free devices, noting that even talking on the phone distracts you from the road.

Last year in Houston, there were more than 4,500 traffic crashes involving distracted driving, leading to more than 100 serious injuries and three deaths.
