NHC: 50% Chance of Tropical Development This Week

The National Weather Service is now predicting a 50% chance of a tropical disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico later this week.

Forecasters are monitoring an area of low pressure over the Bay of Campeche...if that system moves over warm waters it could form into a tropical disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico in 5-6 days. At this point, it's too early to determine how strong any potential tropical system would be or where it might eventually go. Some models have a potential system staying in the western Gulf of Mexico, while others have it moving more toward the central Gulf.
