Lt. Col. Allen West came to Texas a few years ago and made an impact, which ultimately led to his election last year as the new Chairman of the Texas GOP. Less than a year after that win, West announced he was stepping down as of next month. Earlier this morning, he talked to Jimmy Barrett and Shara Fryer on KTRH about his future.
There has been speculation West would run for Governor and challenge incumbent Greg Abbott. There has also been speculation about a Congressional run, targeting the seat held by Democrat Colin Allred. Judging by what West said this morning, it appears his sights are set on Austin, and not Washington, DC.
"America looks to Texas to be a beacon. That's why we are called the Lone Star State. If Texas were to fall, America would be soon to fall after that. We've got to weigh all of the opportunities and make a decision within the next few weeks," West said.
