A Houston Golfer is Going to the U.S. Open Later this Month

A local golfer is on his way to the 2021 U.S. Open.

Former Memorial High School and Rice Owls golfer Mario Carmona qualified for golf's toughest major this week at the Dallas Athletic Club.

The 25-year-old Mexican native moved to Houston at age 12 and learned the game at the Memorial Park golf course.

The U.S. Open will be June 17th to the 20th at Torrey Pines in San Diego, California. Carmona is one of only 156 qualifiers, a field that includes the top 60 golfers in the world.
