University Deputy Fire Marshall Charged in Accidental Shooting

A University of Houston deputy fire marshal is charged with manslaughter for the shooting death of an 18-year-old volunteer firefighter last Sunday afternoon.

The shooting happened at a home on Bowler Road in Waller County. Joshua Hahn was reportedly showing off a rifle when he pointed it at Douglas Smith and pulled the trigger.

Officials say Hahn had removed the magazine but hadn't checked the chamber.

Smith was a volunteer with the Tri-County Fire Department.

Hahn is in the Waller County Jail.
