Houston is doubling the fine for illegal dumping. City Council has increased the fine from two-thousand to four-thousand-dollars, which is the maximum allowed under state law. The council also increased the fines for repeat offenders.
City and county officials say many illegal dumpers commit the crime within three-miles of their own home or office.
The city received more than eight-thousand complaints about illegal dumpsites in 2019.
