Harris County Is a Billion Dollars Short on Flood Mitigation Projects

Harris County leaders are trying to come up with funding sources to finish a series of flood control projects.

The county is more than a billion-dollars short of completing the projects from a bond program voters passed in 2018, the year after Tropical Storm Harvey.

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo says that, prior to her time in office, the county got a verbal commitment from the state to pass down a billion federal dollars.

But the county didn't get it in writing, and the money never showed up.
