"Ice Cream Licker" gets 180 days in cooler after probation revoked

A man who became known as the "Ice Cream Licker" has been ordered to serve 180 days in jail.

D'Adrien Anderson, 26, of Port Arthur was sentenced to 30 days in jail and 180 days probation in March 2020 after he recorded a cell phone video showing him licking the contents of a tub of Blue Bell ice cream from a Walmart freezer, then putting it back.

Anderson produced a receipt proving he actually removed the ice cream from the freezer as soon as he stopped recording and bought it. But Jefferson County District Attorney Bob Wortham says the widely viewed video forced the store to remove a large amount of ice cream from the section due to health concerns, costing revenue. Anderson was required to pay a fine of $1,000 and $1,565 restitution to Blue Bell.

After Anderson was arrested again in January for trespassing, Wortham filed a motion to revoke his probation. The DA also reported Anderson wasn't appearing for probation meetings or paying probation fees.

As a consequence, County Judge Terrence Holmes granted the motion to revoke and ordered Anderson to serve the full 180 days in the Jefferson County Jail.
