It's that time of year again. No, we're not talking about baseball or taxes. The Houston Police Department is getting ready for their annual 'March On Crime' initiative. It starts with a big press conference with HPD Chief Art Acevedo, who said all the right things. But with Houston's crime rate skyrocketing! People don't want talk, they want action. "We know that this year has been a tough year" Acevedo said. "The pandemic has had an impact on crime, and on the psyche of the American people across the nation. This is nothing unique in Houston." But is the out of control crime really due to Covid? Doug Griffith, head of the Houston Police Officers Union told KTRH he doesn't think so. The real problem Griffith says, is the revolving door at the courthouse, where liberal judges continue to let violent criminals off the hook on PR bonds. "It's obvious are judges are not doing their job. Their job is to protect the citizens of Harris County by putting these criminals behind bars. They refuse to do it, and it has caused our community to be victimized over and over again by these violent thugs." Griffith is also hoping that State lawmakers will make some changes during this current legislative session. Pandemic aside, Chief Acevedo said the department is focused on violent crime, road rage, and theft.
