Woman Suing Houston Over Mounted Patrol

A woman who was knocked down by a mounted Houston Police officer's horse during a George Floyd protest is suing the department.

Melissa Sanchez filed suit on January 15th, accusing the HPD of negligence. A bystander caught the August accident on cell-phone video.

Sanchez had her back turned to the mounted patrol officer's horse as it knocked her to the ground and stepped over her.

HPD Chief Art Acevedo says the officer was distracted by a scuffle that was happening near Sanchez. She's demanding a jury trial.
