Vaccines Move to Second Phase

The Texas Department of State Health Services is giving the green light to move on to Phase 1B in their COVID-19 vaccination plan. Approval to move forward came on Christmas Eve Day.

People in that group include those 65 and older as well as those over the age of 16 who suffer from chronic, serious health conditions.

Frontline medical workers and first responders were among the group who were vaccinated during Phase 1A.

Health providers who still have COVID-19 vaccine are told to use it up as quickly as possible.

Healthcare groups got a letter Wednesday from the Texas Department of State Health Services that says a significant portion of the vaccine received in Texas hasn't yet been used.

The letter from the DSHS commissioner went so far as to recommend providers jump ahead in their priority framework to administer the vaccine to people who want to take it, regardless of their priority status.
