Beginning today health workers with Harris County Public Health will visit randomly selected households to collect data on the spread of Covid 19 in the Houston area. They’ll be collecting answers and blood samples.
The project runs November 15 through December 15, teams working 9-5, searching out individuals who have antibodies to better ascertain who has contracted the virus, how many people, how transmission rates vary from community to community, and how many people carry antibodies though they never had symptoms.
In a statement, Harris County Public Health Executive Director Umair Shah says, “By finding out how widespread the illness is, we can develop strategies that will help us control the spread of Covid 19.”
Participation is voluntary. The teams will be wearing yellow vests and will have identification cards.
The Houston area has recorded more than 236-thousand cases of Covid 19.
