Hurricane Laura Pets Ready for Adoption

Hurricane Laura went barreling through Lake Charles and Sulphur, Louisiana last week. The good people at Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) inquired about animal shelters in the area and discovered the Calcasieu Parish Animal Shelter in Lake Charles was in dire need. The Houston group took trucks to the Lake Charles shelter and, as Houston SPCA spokeswoman Julie Kuenstle says, "We basically cleaned out the Lake Charles shelter! We brought back 27 dogs, 32 cats and even 2 kittens a Good Samaritan brought in at the last minute."

Kuenstle says the animals have had their medical check-ups, are getting used to a new place, and some will be ready to adopt tomorrow (Wednesday, 9-2-2020). "They are a bit confused and some are afraid right now, but most are already very social and are showing signs of affection with people."
