According to the President’s public schedule, President Trump is going to arrive at Chennault Airport in Lake Charles shortly after 1 this afternoon and will survey the damage left behind by Hurricane Laura, the massive Cat 4 hurricane that struck before sunrise Thursday morning that ripped off roofs, tossed trucks like toys and brought devastation to the region. At least four deaths have been reported in Louisiana caused by fallen trees, in addition to a man who died of monoxide poisoning from a generator, and a man who drowned.
President Trump will land at the Orange County Airport at around 3 and will stay for a little over an hour and a half. There were widespread power outages caused by damage to Entergy electricity transmission lines. Many power lines were downed. Many residents had evacuated to other areas in Texas but have been given the all clear to return home, though water and electricity services could be spotty as the clean-up continues.
President Trump will get the full effect of Texas heat with a Heat Advisory in effect today and a heat index reaching upwards of 110 in some places.
