La Porte Issues Voluntary Evacuation Order

This is an important message from the City of La Porte. In preparation for Hurricane Laura, the City is issuing a Voluntary Evacuation Order for all areas of La Porte, effective immediately.

La Porte is now under a Hurricane Warning and Storm Surge Warning due to potentially dangerous impacts to our area. Hurricane Laura is expected to be a Category 3 major hurricane at landfall, with up to 115 mph winds. On its current track, La Porte can expect to experience tropical storm and/or hurricane force winds and 3-5 feet of storm surge.

Since La Porte is located in the forecast cone, we need to plan for a potential landfall near Galveston Bay. This is an extremely serious and potentially dangerous storm. Residents should strongly consider evacuating by early Wednesday, August 26th.

We expect tropical storm force winds to begin impacting La Porte tomorrow evening, and rising water from storm surge is possible earlier during the day. Do not wait until the last minute to prepare. Now is the time to take action to protect your loved ones and property.

To repeat, the City has issued a Voluntary Evacuation Order for all areas of La Porte, effective immediately. All residents are urged to continue monitoring future weather updates for Hurricane Laura.
