Tuesday is Election Day for Primary Run-Off

Election day in the Texas primary election run off is Tuesday, with Democratic challengers to Senator John Cornyn's seat at the top of the ticket.

According to the Secretary of State's office, combining mail-in ballots with in-person early voting, 652-thousand Democrats have cast ballots and 411-thousand Republicans.

Half of the Democratic voters are non-white, 30% of those African Americans.

If a vote breakout from Harris County is any indication of statewide totals, Republicans are relying heavily on the party's older voters, 77% of the votes on the Republican primary ballott coming from voters 65 years of age or older. Only 2% are under the age of 35, compared to Democrats, with 10% of voters are under 35 and 56% over 65.
