The Mercado 6 Marketplace, near Mission Bend, erupted in flames around 10:30 on the night of July 4th.
Fire fighters from The Community Fire Department, Northeast Fire Department and the Houston Fire Department joined to battle the flames. When the Community Fire Department arrived, they were able to immediately put large amounts of water on the fire. Most of the building was saved. When they arrived, each group found the parking lot littered with various spent fireworks, but the cause has not been officially announced. It too HFD till midnight to completely douse the flames and cool the embers. The building was under construction to be transformed into a gym.
The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating what started the fire.
