Houston Mayor Puts Three Bars on His “Wall of Shame”

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner is adding three local bars to his “Wall of Shame”:

  • Spire Night Club at 1720 Main St.
  • Pour Behavior at 2211 Travis St.
  • Prospect Park at 3100 Fountain View Dr.

On Monday afternoon, Turner announced those three businesses refused to follow Governor Greg Abbott’s COVID-19 order this weekend.

“I’m hoping that other businesses will not have to be added to this wall of shame… You shouldn’t be in a crowded capacity, shoulder-to-shoulder, not wearing a mask. That simply is a formula to be infected,” Turner said.

The Mayor does not have the authority to shut the businesses down. Instead, he's turning in their names to TABC, when has the authority to revoke their alcohol license.

The Houston Health Department reported 1,317 new cases, which is a two-day total from Sunday and Monday. Turner noted the rise in the number of young people getting sick, including those in their 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s.
