Round two of Harris County's $30 million COVID-19 Relief Fund begins Tuesday.
Judge Lina Hidalgo says about 20,000 low-income households will receive between $1,200-$1,500 each.
"Far too many of our neighbors and our friends, family members through no fault of their own have lost their job," she told reporters Monday. "They're struggling to pay rent, pay their bills, put food on the table and as a community we have to rally together to make sure we're providing for folks, that folks don't fall through the cracks."
About half the money already has been distributed.
"Since the beginning of March, more than 277,000 Harris County residents have filed for unemployment," says Hidalgo. "So, we're trying to make a dent in that."
