Houston ISD Has New Budget

The Houston ISD has its new budget in place for the year ahead.

The Board of Trustees approved the two-billion-dollar budget Thursday evening by a 7-2 vote.

The spending plan includes a salary and benefits package of more than 34-million-dollars, plus an increase in the district's contribution to health insurance premiums for employees.

HISD officials say the cost of the coronavirus in the next fiscal year remains to be seen.

Whether the district teaches in classrooms, remotely, or both, each scenario will have pandemic-related costs.
