The YMCA of Greater Houston, which has dozens of locations in the area, has announced that it will reinstate some fitness-related programs and services starting today.
Outdoor group exercise, lap swimming, and summer day camp will be included, but fitness centers, indoor group exercise, child watch, additional youth programs, and others will come later.
The reopened centers will operate 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Saturday, with the exception of summer camps and child care. Program schedules are available on the YMCA website.
To comply with the state reopening order and COVD-19 safety concerns, outdoor group exercise capacity will be determined by square footage of the area, putting 10 to 12 feet between participants.
For the aquatic programs, chemical checks will be performed every hour. Members will be required to register for classes online and check in wearing suggested face masks. A majority of staff members will be required to wear face masks.
