Turners Says No Mask Citations in Houston

At his Friday afternoon press conference, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner announced another Covid 19 fatality in the city, the first in four days.He said it appears Houston has flattened in the number of cases, but hasn’t begun a descent yet.A man in his 70’s with no previous health conditions has died.

Mayor Turner says when the County’s mask ordinance becomes effective for everyone 10 and older Monday, Houston police won’t be issuing citations, but instead will either hand out masks or will suggest the violator get one.He says all of the city council members will be holding mask giveaways in the coming days.

The city is going deeply into the red as a result of the pandemic, Turner warning to expect a budget shortfall of up to $200 million dollars, the largest in the city’s history. He says thousands of employees will be furloughed and five Houston police cadet classes will be deferred.
