Medical officials say Houston is in need of blood donations. They're asking individuals not to cancel your plans to donate out of fear of catching the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Dr. Susan Rossmann, Chief Medical Officer for the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, worries a lack of donations amid fears of catching the Coronavirus could put patients in jeopardy. “There is no risk to donating blood,” Rossmann told KTRH. “There is no risk to the patient from receiving blood at this time. Coronavirus has never been transmitted by blood.”
Rossmann says the Blood Center is taking precautions to ensure donation areas are kept clean. Blood donors must be healthy, feeling well, and free of respiratory illness symptoms to be eligible to donate.
