ERCOT Anticipates Record Power Usage This Summer

The operator of the state's main power grid says Texans will likely use record amounts of electricity this summer, but the grid should be ready.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas says peak power usage is expected to increase by two-thousand megawatts this summer, but will be offset by about 35-hundred megawatts of new generating capacity.

ERCOT adds that the added generation lowers the risk of a power emergency in the summertime, but doesn't eliminate it.

The new generation comes mostly from wind and solar.
