In trying times, good people want to do the right thing. Bad people want to take advantage of the good people. You don't need to be sick to lose money to coronavirus. This is why the coronavirus scare could cost you dearly without you ever getting sick. Financial Adviser Derrick Kinney says, "Now, more than ever, when it comes to solicitations for donations or investment opportunities...you need to be very careful. During times of crisis, it's very important for consumers to have a 'buyer beware' mentality."
Kinneysays to beware of fake charities or crowdfunding sites. The Federal Trade Commission says to be extra cautious if you get an email that appears to be from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. .There are scammers out there ready to prey on the unsuspecting. Kinney continues, "You could be asked to donate to a victim's family that doesn't really exist or invest in products that claim they will stop the outbreak.'
"Ask your self : does this make sense? Is it the truth? Can I be taken advantage of?"
