The way you raised your kids might explain the rise of Bernie Sanders

If you want to know why Bernie Sanders is the clear frontrunner for the Democrats, it might just be how you raised your kids.

It's not that you are a bad parent, but CNBC.com columnist Jake Novak says it's because we don't make our kids adult the way we used to.

"We have really delayed the age of adulthood. I think that in the middle to upper class in America right now, the age of adulthood is darn near thirty," Novak explained.

Until then, Novak says there's almost no financial responsibility going on. So when Bernie talks about free college, younger voters listen. But there's one problem.

"These kinds of programs can't ever really get passed. It's not really going to happen. You are not going to be able to forgive $1.6 or $1.7 trillion dollars in student loan debt," Novak said.

And he adds that says those same young voters will be disappointed when Bernie can't get Medicare for all done, either.
