South Padre Island Prepares for Spring Break

Police and fire officials in South Padre Island say they have plans in place to make Spring Break safer for vacationing students.

Among the plans discussed this week during a city press conference, the fire department chief said a medical tent will be set up at Tompkins Park.

Ambulances will be staged there to transport critical and urgent care patients off the island to local hospitals.

The police chief said officers from her department, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Homeland Security and the Texas Department of Public Safety will be out in force through the month of March.
