Are Republicans losing the fundraising battle?

When it comes to the 2020 race, it looks like Democrats have a leg up on Republicans in one key area.

According to The Hill, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy told his conference Democrats are doing a better job at raising money. Gary Polland with the Texas Conservative Review says McCarthy has a point.

"Democrats are about three years ahead of Republicans in small donors. They have done a really good job of establishing a network of people who send them ten or fifteen dollars a month," Polland explained.

Polland, a former Harris County GOP Chairman, says locally fundraising depends on the race.

"Candidates running in high profile races are able to raise money. Candidates in less glamorous races are having a more difficult time raising money," Polland said.

One of those high profile races is John Cornyn's Senate seat. Cornyn raised almost $3 million in the last three months of 2019 and has over $12 million on hand
