450 homes were damaged in the explosion at Watson Grinding and within hours homeowners are filing lawsuits against the company. Two men, Frank Flores and Gerardo Castorena, died in the explosion. Mo Aziz of the Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Sorrels, Agosto & Aziz law firm is representing the family of Frank Flores. Aziz says his firm is representing the Flores family to coordinate with different agencies, many of which have already been calling them. He says a major part of their suit, like those of the homeowners, is to ensure the integrity of the evidence. He speaks out about why the court order part of the suit is filed so quickly.
"Based on our past experience in these types of disasters, one of the key factors of finding out the cause of the explosion is collecting evidence. We need to get our experts on the ground as soon as possible. Without a court order - we can't do that."
Some attorneys are saying they learned a lesson during Harvey and moving quickly to file will help their clients make accurate claims.
