Some parents in Brazoria County want a coach/teacher at Clute Intermediate (part of Brazosport IDS) fired.
They say she punished students for tardiness and cutting class by making them do a "bear walk" on the asphalt sports track. ["bear walk" is an exercise where they must walk on the hands and toes} One mother says the teacher took discipline too far. Another mother says her daughter can't wash her hair or bathe herself.
The Brazosport ISD released a written statement:
“Clute Intermediate School science teacher and girls basketball coach, Jazzmin Smith, has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation regarding an incident within the girl’s basketball team. Brazosport ISD has high expectations for all employees; and all allegations are taken seriously and investigated to ensure the safety of our students.”
