How much trouble is the NRA in?

The NRA has had a tough 2019, with scandals that have led to the ouster of then President Oliver North. Some think the gun rights organization is dying, and that impeachment has overshadowed it.

In fact, that was exactly what MSNBC's Rachel Maddow claimed during her show last week.

"This would be alike a show-stopping deal at any other time; the once fearsome NRA in free-fall," Maddow said.

Gun rights attorney Emily Taylor this is wishful thinking, for the most part.

"It's in the realm of possibility that they can't pull it together. It would be very sad, because they are a force for gun rights," Taylor explained.

That is especially true when mass shootings lead to calls for more gun control.

"They step in and remind lawmakers what is currently under the law," Taylor stated, adding gun rights will be a campaign issue in 2020.
