Texas Suffering from Widespread Flu Early

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says Texas is among the states with the highest amount of flu activity, classifying it as "widespread." Texas Health and Human Services indicates the Greater Houston area isn’t among the areas being hit hardest. Houston Methodist Hospital provides a “Respiratory Pathogen Epidemiology Snapshot” updated regularly.

Dallas County saw its third death related to the flu this season earlier this week when a 79-year-old died. This follows the deaths of a Dallas woman who was 36 and a Grand Prairie woman who was 81, who both dies of flu-related causes.

The county's health and human services director, Dr. Philip Huang, says this amount of activity this early in the flu season is the highest it’s been.
