Police ID suspect in police officer's murder; ask for help in finding him

UPDATE: As of 9am the suspect, identified as Tavores D. Henderson, remains on the run. Police had surrounded the home of Henderson's mother thinking he was there. But he was not. Police are asking for your help in finding him. You can see what Henderson looks like below.

ORIGINAL: For the second time in less than a week, a Houston area police officer has been killed in the line of duty.

Nassau Bay police were conducting a traffic stop, when officer Kayla Sullivan was hit by the driver, who was trying to get away. That driver apparently had an outstanding warrant for domestic violence in Harris County.

"During the arrest the suspect fought with officers, and was able to break free and re-enter his vehicle. The suspect drove the vehicle away, at some point, striking Sgt. Kayla Sullivan," Nassau Bay Police Chief Tim Cromie said.

Sullivan was taken to a nearby hospital where she passed away. She had been on the job for sixteen years. She is the first Nassau Bay cop to be killed in the line of duty.

The car the suspect was in was found abandoned. The suspect's name has not been released, but overnight police surrounded his mother's home in southeast Houston — blocking off a neighborhood as the search continued.

Sgt. Sullivan's death comes after HPD Sgt. Chris Brewster was murdered in cold blood this past Saturday.
